Council want Your opinion on traffic measures

Blackpool council is asking for help in it’s consultation about experimental traffic measures in the town centre.

Remember: if you spot breaking news please email us at newsdesk@bplnews.co.uk

Blackpool residents and businesses are reminded that thereโ€™s only 3 weeks left to provide feedback on the experimental traffic restrictions in St Johnโ€™s Square and the surrounding pedestrianised roads.

The deadline for your opinions is Tuesday 5 December to have your say on this area of town.

Earlier this week Blackpool Council released the following information.

๐‘พ๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’๐’†๐’†๐’… ๐’•๐’ ๐’Œ๐’๐’๐’˜:

โœฆ The restrictions are in place as part of our efforts to make the town centre safer for pedestrians

โœฆ The areas outlined in the map have been long-standing pedestrian zones which general traffic should not access already. The new restrictions are being made to limit the increased amount of unauthorised vehicles using the area

โœฆ Since Monday 5 June, only buses, taxis and other authorised vehicles (such as emergency services) can now drive within the restricted area

โœฆ Taxis can stop for pick-up/drop-off within the restricted area, however waiting is only permitted within the designated taxi rank on Church Street

โœฆ Local businesses should note that access for delivery vehicles is permitted into the restricted area between 6.00pm and 10.30am only

โœฆ Less traffic moving through the area means our residents and visitors can safely enjoy St Johnโ€™s Square, the alfresco eating areas and any events taking place

โœฆ There are currently no official parking bays or spaces on any of the streets outlined in the map, so this doesnโ€™t impact parking capacity

โœฆ All of the above changes are experimental.
