Police and medics attend emergency at superstore

Update in short – A customer at the store suffered a medical episode and required treatment. Earlier we reported:-

Police and paramedics have been called to an incident at morrisons on squires gate lane in Blackpool.
Around 5:30 we received reports that the air ambulance response car and several police units had attended the superstore – one eyewitness reported that screens had been put up around the entrance and it was closed off for up to 30 minutes.
Armed police units were also seen at the incident but they were reportedly there before the incident for other reasons.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene claim that a customer sustained a serious head injury and required specialist treatment. This has been confirmed by a family member who has asked for no further comments to be made at this time.
Rumours online of a possible stabbing are outright false.

The store remained open.

Today 31/08/2024 Lancashire police released the following statement.

We are appealing for witnesses after a man sadly died after being found unresponsive outside the Squires Gate Morrisons in Blackpool yesterday.

Our officers were called to Amy Johnson Way to reports a man in his 50s had been found collapsed outside the store.

Despite the nest efforts of the emergency services, he later sadly died at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this distressing time.

While the man’s death was sudden and unexpected, it is not being treated suspicious at this time.

We are asking for anybody who was in and around the store who saw what led to the man collapsing to come forward.
